- Delivering Sustained Competitive Advantage Through Information Technology Services
18 Apr 06 | Single Topic Reports
Our exploitation of, and increasing reliance on, the many ways that information technology now shapes and reshapes our world lies at the heart of the challenges that the contemporary CIO has to grapple with, and overcome.
What are the strategic objectives and the performance objectives for my business that I look to information technology to help me deliver? In what ways might my whole business model potentially be reshaped by what information technology can now do? Is my focus on some new application, or on the overhaul of some back-office service? Am I facing the challenge of transforming legacy ´stuff´ or some key aspect of a business process? Are my prime drivers the need for sharper cost reduction, to delight my clients better, raise asset productivity, deliver more rapid growth, speed globalization, enable greater business agility, or deliver more innovation? This report will answer your questions.
- Supporting High Performance IT Executive Teams March 06
21 Mar 06 | Presentation
In 2006, Brinley Platts investigation for the LEF focused on the IT executive teams the different role-types need to help further the CIOs credibility and effectiveness.
The hypothesis was a simple one. Since the four kinds of CIO bring markedly different strengths and weaknesses to their roles, they require different experience and capabilities in their teams to provide all-round effective IT leadership for every part of the business.
The research exposed the extent to which this is happening and has identified, for many CIOs, new actionable opportunities for improvement and deeper business engagement.

- Creating Sustainable Advantage Through the Use of IT
21 Mar 06 | Presentation
Richard Sykes’ analysis sets out the processes and management thinking that can underwrite the achievement of sustainable advantage through the use of IT. In particular, he describes an emerging IT services value chain model where innovation, learning and competitive edge emerge at every stage of the IT value creation process.
Whether information technology is highly strategic to your firm or merely a supporting technology, the effective use of IT must be an essential part of your long term competitive positioning.

6 Mar 06 | Presentation
Contrary to the view typified by Nicholas Carr's 2003 HBR article, IT actually matters more than ever. However, creation and delivery of sustained competitive 'edge' in the contemporary business lies not in the technology itself, but in its human mediation. Dr Richard Sykes, whose experience includes six years as Group VP IT for a major global ‘blue chip’ in the 1990s, followed by five years as Chairman of a leading European outsourcing consultancy, has developed a practical analysis that identifies the roots of this sustainable 'edge'.
In this web conference, Richard explains the analysis and its application. He then describes the trend of the delivery of much contemporary ICT capability as technology-enabled services, and how a focus on the delivery of 'edge' in the marketplace is driving its steady restructuring towards a layered supply-side of more specialized and focused vendors.
